VAC workshop projects for young people.

One of my main concerns as Chair has been to bring young people into the VAC through our engineering projects. I am pleased to say that the 1913 Eastbourne Monoplane fuselage replica was rescued from Newquay Museum when it closed down and has been stored at Bodmin. A new home is anticipated in the Midlands where apprentices will learn new skills with this airframe. Similarly, the Linnet restoration programme goes on apace in North Yorkshire with thanks to Julian Hill and Isabel Owen. We are also relocating the Dobolosky Flying Flea from Fawley Hill to somewhere in the far south where there will be opportunities for school groups to find out about this unique aircraft. In Windermere, and along with Ian Gee and the Lakes Flying Company Ltd, we are setting up a young people's aviation activity programme around Waterbird. Without giving young people opportunities like these to get up close to aircraft and learn how they can be restored/designed/built, we will have no engineers in the future to maintain our vintage aircraft.
